Overlanding trips across Europe, trail notes and one black Jeep Gladiator called Shadow that always finds the long way round.
Over the pass, over the next ridge, over the part of the map where the road stops being a road.
Under canvas, under the stars, under the truck with a headlamp and a socket set.
The detour, the wrong turn, the long way round. The bit that actually makes the trip.
Sunrise starts and sundowner camps. Everything worth remembering happens near one end of the day.
What this is
OUTS Overland is where I collect the trips — the planning, the routes, the gear that earned its place and the gear that didn’t, and the bits that went sideways along the way.
Overlanding is mostly the unglamorous half: load plans, tyre pressures, recovery gear you hope stays clean, and a lot of coffee made badly at altitude. That half is what I want to write about, because it’s the half nobody films.
Right now this is a starting line, not a finish. Trips, videos and photos are on the way — this page is the fixed point they’ll all be linked from.

The rig
Named by my sons: Shadow Trooper, Shadow for short. Black, like everything on it.
Every overland build is a running argument between capability, weight and the money you’d rather spend on fuel. This one is somewhere in the middle of that argument, and it will stay there.
YouTube and Instagram are being set up now. When they're live, they'll be linked here first.
